Ponce Inlet's jetty grooms and focuses whatever swell is running, which is why New Smyrna is the consistency king of Florida — when everywhere else is flat, the inlet is usually still rideable. That reliability made it a grom factory: a disproportionate share of Florida's pro surfers learned their craft on this sandbar.

It works year-round, with fall tropical swells providing the standout days and winter nor'easter windswell keeping the rhythm going. The shark statistics sound scarier than the reality — bites are almost all minor cases of mistaken identity in murky inlet water.
