Bandon's beach breaks around a gallery of sea stacks below Coquille Point — one of the most photographed stretches of the Oregon coast, and one of its moodier surf zones. The stacks break up the sandbars into defined peaks and offer a little wind protection, but this is still the open North Pacific: raw, cold, and rarely tidy.
Summer and early fall bring the manageable days, when NW windswell drops to head-high and the wind backs off in the morning. Winter is all power — 20-second Aleutian groundswell that closes out the bars and sends everyone to watch from the bluff instead.
